Frequently asked questions.
What is EFL and who can benefit?
Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) promotes the development of life skills through equine activities. This is NOT therapy and we do not have a lisenced mental health practioner on the property. EFL provides a therapeutic experience through connections made with horses during ground exercises. Sessions are individualized and tailored to each participants needs and goals.
EFL is beneficial to anyone who is looking to improve communication and social skills, improve focus, grounding, mindfulness, reduce stress and anxiety, and build connections. Sessions are structured for both children and adults. They can build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills.
EFL is successful because of horses’ natural instincts and behaviors. Whether domestic or wild, horses have strong herd instincts much like humans who need connections. Horses can build strong connections with both horses and humans. Being animals of prey in nature, horses rely on each other for safety and survival. Due to these instincts horses can read and/or respond to our emotions, energy, and body language.
Will I be riding horses?
No we do not ride during EFL sessions. We work on the ground to build a connection with our equine partners.
